Aria's Tales - 1.2
Throughout their conversation, Mingyan had been speaking in English. This was because her father was a foreigner and her mother brought her abroad to bond with her father in those three years. So although she could speak now, she was more inclined to speak in English. This was also one of the reasons she had sung in English.
“Tonight, the first wish should be done.” Mingyan tapped her phone on her chin. Lily tilted her head and thought about it. She looked through her database to confirm the original soul’s three wishes.
Expose Chen Rui to cousin.
Become an International star.
Marry Shen Yan.
Lily’s eyes turned to stars as she realized what Mingyan was about to do.
After getting Lu Feng’s confirmation, the door opened and Hui Mingli walked in with his assistant following him behind. They then discussed the terms of the contract and her schedule for the month to which Mingyan internally screamed in shock. She just passed the audition and they had already wanted her to release a song written by Hui Mingli himself. If Mingyan’s fate is not changed then this can be considered as a farewell gift. No wonder the original Mingyan was too excited to care for anything else.
She nodded her head repeatedly and signed the 5-year contract as an artist under Brilliant Stars. Mingyan and Hui Mingli both separated in good terms.
Mingyan went to the front of the building but didn’t go out. At this time there were still a lot of people coming out to go home after the audition. She checked the time and found that it was still 6:30 in the evening. She waited in the lounge right beside the entrance for thirty minutes.
When it struck 7:00 p.m., Mingyan got up and took a look outside. If it was her thousands of years ago, she would never believe that all people from the audition have gone home in just thirty minutes and that the front of the building of a famous company would be so deserted. But it was definitely empty. After all, no one can fight against plot armour, not even she, herself. Right now, the front only had two girls who were looking at each other with intense gazes. It was exactly like the scene that Mingyan had seen.
“One of them is probably the protagonist in this world,” Lily commented as she flopped her belly over Mingyan’s shoulder while watching the two girl’s confrontation with contempt. Mingyan silently agreed. “Let’s go over. We can’t let them wait now, can we?”
Mingyan adjusted her emotions into one of ‘too happy to care about anything else’. Her eyes sparkled and a slight curl on her lips could be seen if one looked very closely. She then skipped her way out of the building.
“Chen Rui! If I don’t kill you right now, then let me die so that I can haunt you!” Yang Xi’s eyes were bloodshot. Her once elegant temperament couldn’t be seen. She looked like a malicious spirit had possessed her instead.
Mingyan froze in place with wide eyes. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Yang Xi, her friend, was holding a gun and pointing it to Chen Rui. Her face was incredibly scary that Mingyan grew pale in fright.
Chen Rui turned to look at Brilliant Stars’ entrance anxiously. When she saw the person she had been waiting for, her eyes sparkled. “Gu Mingyan you’re here!” She ran over with tears in her eyes, hastily clutching on Mingyan’s arm.
The frozen Mingyan finally woke up but before she could ask what was happening, Chen Rui frantically hid behind her. Mingyan’s eyes glinted in mischief. While Chen Rui held both her arms and placed her in front like a shield, Mingyan stumbled back right as a bang echoed through the sky.
“Mingyan!!!” A deep terrified voice startled Chen Rui and Yang Xi, while Mingyan was in too much pain to register his arrival. A man in a formal suit had on a ghastly face seeing the sight of her fiance holding a gun, the girl he found interesting using his cousin as a shield, and his cousin getting shot. Rage and terror filled his heart.
Yang Xi’s red face turned pale in a split second. Her lips trembling as she stuttered his name. “L- L- Lu F- Feng?”
Lu Feng didn’t dare distract himself with his fiance at this moment. He ran over to Mingyan and saw that the shot had only grazed her shoulder. But his face didn’t lighten. On the contrary, it darkened to the point that the surroundings felt like winter had descended the land, even though it was still summer.
“Fengfeng, what do we do?” Chen Rui donned on a panic and terrified expression, internally delighted that Lu Feng had personally seen his fiance shooting her cousin. She did not realize at all that her actions had also been seen.
A sneer and a snort couldn’t help but escape from Lu Feng’s lips. He reached out to hold Mingyan in a princess-carry gently while coaxing her. “Mingyan don’t worry, cousin’s here, okay?” When he saw her shiver, biting her lower lip in pain, and tearing up silently, his heart was very worried. This child had just been traumatized by her adoptive family. If God is real, then please let this child not suffer anymore!
He kept on talking as he led her to his car that was parked right in front of the building. Without disturbing her wound, he took her inside the car and ordered the driver to go to the nearest hospital as fast as possible. Along the way, he made sure that the ride did not hurt Mingyan even more than she had.
Mingyan was using all her acting skills to stop herself from cursing from the pain. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead and the tears – real tears, slowly drop one by one. But she didn’t forget to assess this cousin of hers despite the excruciating pain. Now that she has gotten a personal look towards his care with family members, Mingyan was even sure now. She had a great older brother who doted on her but posed as a cousin. Such thought lessened the pain on her left shoulder.
The drive to the hospital was very smooth except for the sharp turns that made it seem like they were on a roller coaster. But she didn’t have to worry bumping and hurting herself as Lu Feng was there to protect her.
Once she was treated, she was advised to stay in the hospital and might have to stay for a few days or a week. A bandage was wrapped around her wound and a red tint could be seen on top of it. Mingyan sat down in the hospital bed while Lu Feng called her parents, relaying the news.
When Lu Feng entered the room after his call, he saw the scene of his cousin looking blankly at nothing with dead eyes, as if she couldn’t believe the betrayal she had just experienced. Mingyan was still pale even after the treatment, and her trembling lips were slightly blue. It caused Lu Feng’s heart to ache.
Actually, in Mingyan’s mind, she was just conversing with Lily. There was no such thing as her in disbelief due to being betrayed. But she had to look the part.
‘First wish done!’ Lily popped confetti in Mingyan’s mind. ‘Feels good to expose that bitch’s face!’ She bounced all over to express her joy.
‘Lu Feng is very protective when it comes to family matters. Now that Chen Rui and Yang Xi hurt Mingyan, he would never get together with them anymore. His character prioritizes family over his own personal interests. No wonder the original Mingyan is closest to him out of all the relatives.’
Mingyan analyzed on the inside while she continued her blank look, purposefully ignoring Lu Feng who was calling at her worriedly. She was now playing a damsel in distress who was betrayed by her friend and was even shot by her future cousin-in-law. She did her very best to look devastated.
She felt, personally, that her wound didn’t hurt much. She’s experienced worst after all. She could still sing properly, but she had to have a good reason to be able to sing despite the traumatizing experience.
Two pairs of frantic footsteps resounded outside the room, and then two adults came with pale, worried faces. One was a Chinese lady who looked like she was in her late twenties with dark long hair. The other was an American man who was in his early thirties with short auburn coloured hair.
“Baby are you alright?!” “Yan’er!!” Both called out at the same time as they rushed beside Mingyan.
Mingyan glanced at her parents blankly and was inwardly praising. Her mom might look like she was in her late twenties but she was actually about five years older than that. Then, she looked at her father who was purely American but had a Chinese surname because his foster parents were Chinese. This couple’s story was definitely nothing ordinary.
Seeing that Mingyan had no reaction to their call, both the couple couldn’t help but turn their questioning gazes to Lu Feng. Lu Feng’s face darkened as he lowered his head in guilt. He asked for the couple to step out first and then explained to them in full detail what had happened.
Outside the room, Lu Feng’s voice was neither loud nor soft but Mingyan could still hear it. The couple cursed at the girls after Lu Feng finished and they warned him to ‘take care’ of those two. Lu Feng solemnly nodded.
At this time, Mingyan suddenly had an idea. She weakly supported herself as she tried to leave the tall bed, but her body had been weak because of her gun wound so she ended up falling on the floor with a thump. The people outside stopped talking and rushed to the room. And the sight almost gave them a heart attack.
“Baby what are you doing?!” Mingyan’s father quickly rushed to support his daughter, but Mingyan refused to budge. Her head rattling left and right as tears gathered at the corner of her eyes.
“Yan’er what’s wrong? Tell mommy what’s wrong okay?” Aunty Chang also had tears in her eyes. Why is it that her child must go through another traumatizing experience when she hadn’t even fully forgotten her sixteen years of living in hell?!
Mingyan weakly opened her mouth. “Want to- ” She gasped as she tried to speak. “Want to see Yan gege.”
The three people were suddenly struck dumb. They were now seeing a girl who had almost died and therefore, probably recalled everything in her life. Now her wish was to see the person she had always had in her heart because she didn’t want to die with regrets.
Aunty Chang broke down in tears and hugged her daughter gently. “I got it. Mommy gets it. I’ll call his family right away so please don’t overexert yourself, okay?” She stroked Mingyan’s back in hopes to coax her.
Aunty Chang was just saying this when Mingyan’s father had already started to dial a number. He talked with the person on the line outside the room and his face visibly relaxed after a few moments. He went back inside to deliver the good news.
“Baby, Shen Yan is coming, so please get back on the bed, okay?” He nudged her up and found that she no longer resisted. He sighed in relief and gently carried her to the bed.
Lily, who was in Mingyan’s mind, wiped the nonexistent tears in her eyes. ‘So beautiful! Your skills are too good!’
Mingyan went back to being dazed and staring at nothing, while inwardly giving a high five to Lily. ‘The third wish is progressing earlier than I expected. This way we can see for ourselves if Shen Yan actually has feelings for Gu Mingyan.’ She thought that if he doesn’t, then she’ll just have to make him fall for her to the point of obsession. After all, that was her forte.
She looked forward to this.
