The Imaginary God - Chapter 12
As soon as those three words escaped Lugo’s lips, both Arthur and Baphrael looked over in the direction Lugo was facing. While they could not see anything out of the ordinary, they could definitely hear something.
A strange buzzing sound was slowly approaching them. As it got louder, the two bunnies began to see black dots appear within the sky. Finally they spotted what was making all the noise.
A group of large beetles were approaching them at high speeds. They were not like the beetles Arthur had first seen. These ones were bigger and faster. And there was a strange glint in their eyes that revealed their intelligence.
Something that only strong monsters would have.
As the group approached the Bunnitoria village, a feeling of fear began to grow inside of Baphrael.
“Don’t tell me that those beetles that attacked us in the beginning were just scouts for these guys?!”
If that was so then a problematic situation might occur soon. The distance between the two groups got shorter and shorter. But before the beetles could reach them, Lugo turned to Arthur and said, “Arthur, this could be a good chance to see how strong you have become…”
A response was not even given before the white fur ball shot out toward the beetles. He did not give out any hint of a warning before crashing directly into the creature closest to the front of the group.
The force of Arthur’s attack caused the monster to die and explode without any resistance. Oddly enough it occurred in that exact order…
How Arthur did that, no one knew.
But that did not matter to the other beetles. All they needed to know was that they were under attack.
One of the monsters in the back stopped its movements immediately. It screamed to its companions,
“What was that?! Quickly fly down and kill it!”
The creatures faced the unknown enemy and released their murderous intent. The group consisted of eight beetles, well seven now. Although their number was less than that of the monsters that attacked the village, Lugo could tell that these beasts were much stronger.
But even so, he was not worried. The Bunnitorias were able to close their caves with giant boulders with the help of ingeniously made devices. It had nothing to do with their own strength.
If Lugo were to use a little less than a third of his current strength then he would be able to move the boulder as well. That meant that Arthur should at least have strength equal to one-third of his.
And he was confident that he would not need that much power to deal with these monsters.
Their higher intelligence could be a bit annoying to face though. Instead of charging at Arthur one by one, like they did for Lugo, these beetles split up and surrounded him. Striking in unison, most of them tried to tackle Arthur to the ground.
Arthur jumped up into the sky in order to avoid their strikes. Unfortunately there were two beetles who did not attack. When they saw Arthur shoot up into the air, they swooped down and crashed into him instead.
Arthur did not expect this to happen. Because of that, he was not prepared for their strike.
The momentum of the strike caused Arthur to crash down in the ground. When he landed, the enemies finally got some time to inspect their attacker.
“Hey, isn’t that one of those Bunnitorias that we came here for? Aren’t they supposed to be super weak, how did it kill one of our men so quickly?!”
“Even a group of weak monsters can sometimes produce one prodigy. But even so, it is only one beast. He is probably the reason why our servants did not return to us, take him out quickly and the food supply is ours. Now focus.”
The beetles all looked over in the direction where Arthur landed. As the dust around him slowly cleared, Arthur’s red eyes stared up at the beetles surrounding him. With an angry expression on his face, he began to press himself down into the ground.
Arthur could feel his leg muscles tighten and contract as all of his strength was sent into his there. With a small shout, he launched himself up into the air at the nearest creature.
As he flew up at the monster, Arthur pulled back his right paw while pushing his left one out. He took on a strange pose that looked oddly familiar to Lugo. It was only at the last second that he remembered that it was the same pose he took whenever he would thrust out his old spear.
It seemed that this pose left an impression on the tiny little bunny. But instead of a spear thrust, he was using the pose for a punch instead.
Flying up at speed that shouldn’t have been possible for a bunny, Arthur quickly arrived in front of another beetle and shoved his fist into its head. The paw slid in without a bit of resistance and immediately killed his opponent.
As the body fell from the sky, he quickly used the bug corpse as a stepping stone to keep him flying through the skies.
This course of action was something he was never taught. It was Lugo’s first time witnessing Arthur’s surprising battle prowess at being able to think of a use for the bug corpse on the spot.
It seemed that this fight was not only allowing Arthur to test the limits of his strength, but it was also providing him a surprising amount of battle experience.
Originally, Lugo was planning to help Arthur finish the rest off when he was able to figure out how strong Arthur had become. But now he decided to stay back and watch the fight instead. After all, it never hurts to get more experience.
Except now that he thought of it, gaining experience from a fight would hurt quite a lot…
Shaking himself out of his thought, Lugo turned back to the battle occurring right in front of him.
After launching himself further into the air, Arthur landed on top of another beetle’s head.
He didn’t attack right away and just twisting its head around instead. This caused the bug to fly wildly in random directions. With a strong jerking motion, Arthur ripped its head off of its body and allowed what was left to crash into its comrade.
He then threw the head within his paws at one of the bugs behind him before hopping off to his next target.
With two of the remaining five beetles distracted, he quickly charged over to the monster that was originally giving the commands. But just before he could reach it, one of the other creatures swooped down and picked him up out of the sky.
The sudden grab and dash was an unexpected move on their part. But it just showed how surprising an enemy with high intelligence could be.
But they were not the only intelligent beast around. Usually, monsters in his situation would not know what to do, but Arthur was a Bunnitoria. One of the most intelligent creatures in the forest.
He too had some weird moves that he wanted to try out.
Right now his limbs and body were held tightly together thanks to the beetle’s six limbs. Because of this, Arthur decided to take a strange course of action.
He raised up his two large ears and covered his opponent’s eyes with them. The bug, surprised by his actions, opened up his arms and threw him aside in a panic.
If he did not do this, then he might’ve crashed into something. Arthur had already shown considerable durability when he was tackled by them the first time, but the beetle would not come out unscathed in a similar fashion. While he would not be fatally wounded from crashing, it would have impaired his flying abilities for a second.
And with Arthur being a beast that was well versed in ground travel, that would’ve been the fatal blow.
Sadly he underestimated Arthur’s agility.
The place where he threw Arthur was toward a random tree. But what the beetle did not expect was that Arthur would be able to flip his body around in the air. With this, he would be able to land on the tree trunk for a second before using it as a launching pad to push himself back at his captor.
The monster went into a wild panic and pushed out his legs in order to knock Arthur away.
But that wouldn’t work on him. Instead Arthur grabbed his limbs into his paws and used them to drag himself closer to the beetle.
He then proceeded to turn himself over so that his legs would be facing the creature’s underbelly.
Most of the beetles there had exoskeletons with high defenses protecting them. Arthur was somehow lucky enough to always strike at weak spots like their heads. But the underbelly was an even bigger weak spot than that.
Because they were able to fly in the sky, they usually did not think about attacks from below them. They would worry more in strike from above, so most of their defense went to the shell on their backs. Because of this, the defense under the beetle was sorely lacking.
And since Arthur’s race naturally had powerful legs, him kicking out at the monster’s stomach caused its fleshy body hidden inside of the exoskeleton to be obliterated.
Right now there were only four monsters left. One of them was trapped under the corpse of its fallen comrade and another was still dazed from having its brain get shaken around by being smacked with its friend’s severed head.
Meaning there were only two battle readied enemies left.
Looking at the scene in front of him with horror, the group’s leader began to tremble with fear. No matter how strong Arthur could have possibly been, he did not think he was THIS powerful!
He quickly turned to his comrade and screamed, “Run go warm the boss! Tell him what happened here and bring back reinforcements with you!”
The bug did not have to be told twice and immediately flew off into the distance.
Arthur, seeing that one was escaping, quickly hopped forward in chase. But to his surprise, he was being blocked by the group’s leader.
“Sorry you little freak, but you’re not getting my subordinate so easily. Once he warns the boss, your village will be doomed!”
Laughing hysterically, he prepared to fight and die by Arthur’s hands. But unexpectedly an unfamiliar voice sounded out, “That’s enough.”
Only now did Lugo finally decide to take action. Usually he would not mind if one or two of the bug monsters escaped, but then he heard the group’s leader talk about “a boss”.
“Arthur, leave that one to me. Finish off the other two quickly.”
The group leader watched in confusion as the Bunnitoria in front of him backed off and another strange being took its place.
“A-a human? What’s a human doing here?!”
Seeing the confusion on the beetle’s face, (which he was somehow able to read), Lugo just gave a smile and released his killing intent.
An overwhelming aura crushed down upon the beetle, causing it to lie down in submission.
“Don’t worry about why I am here, rather you should be worried about what I’m going to do if you don’t answer my questions.”
Lugo spoke in a casual manner as if he was asking for the time. Looking at the bug before him, he questioned it about what it meant when it told its subordinate to warn the “boss”.
At first, the monster did not answer any of his questions and scorned him instead. However, Lugo was someone who had been cutting apart and dismembering all types of creatures the entire time he had been in this world. It did not take much effort for him to get the answers he sought.
Plus he got a strange skill with it too!
[Active skill- Butchering has been obtained
Skill has been merged into passive skill Cooking. All effects have been transferred over]
Apparently it was a skill that made it so that whenever he dismembered a living creature, the pain it would feel would be multiplied by a random amount.
Such a skill made a cold sweat form on Lugo’s back. If it was his choice, he would prefer to never use a skill like this ever again. But since its effects have been merged into his passive cooking skill, he really had no choice in the matter.
Other than the foreboding feeling that he was walking down a strange path, Lugo was worried about one other thing. The news he had received from the group leader.
After he explained everything to Baphrael, a dark expression could be seen on the old bunny’s face as he commanded the person nearest to him to gather vital members of the village for a meeting.
Something that was apparently almost never used in the village except in times of emergency.
It appeared that something big was occurring, and the Bunnitoria village might not survive through the ordeal.
It’s the author here!!! My goodness, I’ve been so busy I didn’t even have time to add one of these little passages in the last update! Everything seems to be doing okay though, so yay!
