Rebirth handbook - chapter 8
Chang Manjing looked amused. Since her rebirth, she hadn’t heard He Weiming say a sentence of more than ten words. The most common words she heard every day were “OK”, “Um”, or “Yes” and most times he just nodded his head. In fact, Chang Manjing and He Weiming didn’t communicate much in their previous life. Even though she knew that the child had nothing to do with the mistakes committed by adults, she still minded that he was the son of He Xianyang and Meng Caiqi. So, she was very cold towards him, and naturally with his temperament he wouldn’t take the initiative to approach her. After an accident to the Chang family, He Xianyang slowly handed over the company to He Weiming, while Chang Manjing lost her legs and was placed in the nursing home.
The knowledge of him only came from the proud and complacent display of Meng Caiqi and He Xianyang, and the occasional short interviews that appear on TV. Chang Manjing appreciated his skill and talent, but she also cared about his identity. In this life, she didn’t want to and couldn’t treat this person as her own child. He was this strange product that was brought home.
She was the daughter of a businessman and had a businessman attitude in her bones. What she was doing was nothing but investment. Just like stock trading, there were risks, but the benefits that could be obtained were exciting.
“I heard that telling bedtime stories is something that every mother has to go through. I think you don’t want to hear the story of ‘Sleeping Beauty’, and ‘the Little Mermaid’. How about I read a few passages of ‘The Little Prince’, to you?”
He Weiming was lying on the bed with a quilt on his neck properly, his hands folded on his waist, and then he nodded slightly. Chang Manjing smiled. She sat on the bed by the window, reached out to turn off the light in the room, and turned on the lamp beside the bed. She opened the book ‘The Little Prince’, in her hand and started reading.
“Come and play with me. the little prince suggested.”
“I can’t play with you,” said the fox, “I haven’t been tamed yet.”
“The little prince said, What does ‘tame’ mean?”
“This is something that has long been forgotten,” said the fox. “It means to build a connection.”
“Build a connection?”
“Yes,” said the fox, “to me, you are just a little boy, just like thousands of other little boys. I don’t need you. You don’t need me either. For you, I too am just a fox, like thousands of other foxes. But if you tame me, we will be indispensable to each other. To me, you will be the only one in the world; I will also be the only one in the world to you.”
Chang Manjing’s voice was tactful. She lowered her voice a little, so it seemed gentle like a stream flowing silently in the night. The light coated her profile with a soft edge. He Weiming didn’t know when he turned his head. He looked at the person next to him, looking down and reading the book, blinked slowly, and listened quietly to the words that came from her mouth.
The next day, He Weiming woke up as usual, and realized something was wrong, and when he looked sideways, he found a person lying next to him. It was the person who read to him last night. He looked around and made sure that this was his own room. Then he got up carefully without making a sound and went to the toilet to brush his teeth. After a while, when he came out, he saw the person lying on his bed had sat up and was yawning.
“Morning, I was sleepy last night. I didn’t want to go back, so I just fell asleep. You are a good sleeper, you didn’t even kick the quilt at all.” Chang Manjing said naturally. Of course she was natural, this was her son in name. She couldn’t be uncomfortable. She lifted the quilt and got out of the bed. Chang Manjing pulled her nightgown, walked up to He Weiming who had just washed his face, with her messy long hair, and touched the child’s face.
“After I brush my teeth and change my clothes, let’s go jogging.” Although this mother and son got along with each other strangely, it was surprisingly harmonious. After the two of them finished jogging in the morning, they played a motherly kindness and filial piety in front of He Xianyang at the dining table. Chang Manjing prepared a lot of food for He Weiming. Although he didn’t say much, he accepted Chang Manjing’s feeding.
After the recovery about the previous night, He Xianyang thought that Chang Manjing was going back to Chang’s house. He wanted to talk to her several times, so he could at least put a good impression in her but she said nothing but ‘um’. She then turned to greet He Weiming to eat. Those two looked like a family, and the head of the family looked like an outsider.
He Xianyang closed his mouth and looked at the two with gentle smiles, but he was annoyed by Chang Manjing, who had become unpredictable because of not having a child and then brought home the wild child. The more comfortable He Weiming was, the more heartbreaking He Xianyang felt for his own son He Ze. When he thought of his current whereabouts, he had no appetite and he couldn’t eat breakfast, so he could only watch the other two who were happy.
Chang Manjing then took He Weiming to Chang’s house. Her eldest brother knew that his sister would be there so he didn’t go to the company, and waited in the living room.
“Brother.”
Chang Benjun, the eldest son of the Chang family, heard her voice, and a smile appeared on his serious face. When he saw the obedient little boy in white shirt and suspenders and leather shoes, he frowned.
