Rebirth handbook - Chapter 14
After a big turn, she finally bought something useful. But when passing by the second-floor of the shopping mall, Chang Manjing accidentally saw a beautiful dress worn by a little girl mannequin in the window of a clothes shop. She glanced at He Weiming, who was holding a plush doll next to her, and smiled.
Finally, Chang Manjing also bought the skirt.
The villa they went to was indeed in a forest, with a total of two floors. It didn’t look very big. There was a small yard around it. There was a path leading to the lake in front of the house. A wooden broken bridge could be seen indistinctly and a small boat. There were tall and straight trees growing at the back and left and right of the house, with vines hanging down from the trees. There was a tree right next to the big balcony on the second floor, and the thick branches grew into the balcony railings. When He Weiming was carrying things into the house, he saw a gray squirrel standing on a branch not far away. It tilted its head to look at him.
He Weiming, “…” hang Manjing walked a few steps and didn’t see him following her. She turned her head and saw him, who stopped and looked at a squirrel.
“It’s just a squirrel. There are deers here. I will take you to see them tomorrow.” Chang Manjing greeted the people in the house. The room looked very comfortable. There were wooden utensils everywhere, and from the large floor-to-ceiling glass, one could see the vegetation outside up close, giving it a natural and relaxing feel. The room was clean and tidy. Not long after seeing that it had just been cleaned, Chang Manjing put away the things she bought and took He Weiming upstairs to take a look. There were bedrooms on the second floor, with a large bed on one side, with a washroom and a dressing room, and on the other side there were several large bookshelves without partitions, a rocking chair covered with snow-white fur, and a small window just to let in some sunlight. The balcony was near the big bed. Chang Manjing pointed to the bed, “There is only one bedroom here. You can only sleep with me at night. Anyway, the bed is so big that you will not fall down.” He Weiming had no objections. He was just a child. Chang Manjing made dinner with He Weiming. It was beyond her expectation that He Weiming could cook. He used kitchen knives proficiently, so it was not the first time he used them.
“Do you cook your own food in the orphanage?” Chang Manjing scraped the potatoes and asked him.
“Occasionally.”
Facts have proved that a meal looking good did not guarantee that it would taste delicious. Regarding the dishes made by He Weiming, Chang Manjing commented that “It is just like what I made.”
She herself was not a good cook, and they were half a catty and eight taels (two of a kind) But it was not unpalatable anyway. After the two had eaten, He Weiming washed a fruit and wanted to serve it to Chang Manjing.
Chang Manjing was looking at the stars from the balcony. There were only a few people there but it wasn’t quiet, because there were many unknown birds and insects in the woods. Seeing He Weiming coming upstairs, Chang Manjing got up and quietly pulled him aside, squatted down beside the thick branch that grew to the balcony, and pointed at something. He Weiming took a closer look. There was a big bird’s nest in the cracks of the branches, not far from them, and he could hear the birds inside, by listening carefully.
“There is a bird inside.” Chang Manjing leaned close to him and said softly. He Weiming moved his eyes to her, and saw her staring at the bird’s nest, and there was joy on her face. The mother and the son squatted there and looked at the bird’s nest for a while, until a big bird flapped its wings and flew back. Chang Manjing pulled He Weiming away so he won’t get hit by the bird.
After bathing at night, He Weiming was again asked to put on that beautiful skirt.
“There is only us here, and others can’t see you, so you can wear it for me.” He Weiming looked at Chang Manjing, who was sitting barefoot on the bed with hand on her chin, and asked aloud for a long time.
“I saw on TV that some people have… different preferences. You adopted me, for this?”
Chang Manjing was shocked, “Oh, this kid said so many words all at once for the first time. But, he is blaming me.”
Chang Manjing coughed, “I don’t have any strange hobbies. You think too much. I just want to take a picture of you in a skirt and show it to you when you grow up.”
He Weiming, “…what’s the point of doing this?”
Chang Manjing, “I will be happy?”
