A charming woman arrived at W.R. International Airport, Rislin and caught everyone’s eyes as she ambled down the airport’s hall. When she exited the airport, the Lambert Main House’ chauffeur, Min Lee, instantly recognized the woman.
“Lady Yu, welcome back,” he greeted the woman.
“Old Lance, you’re back! Did you enjoy a pleasant vacation?” Michaela beamed at him.
“Absolutely, My Lady.” Min smiled broadly in return while opening the door of the car. “My family enjoyed a rare pleasant vacation thanks to you.” He then gestured for the lady to go in.
“Thanks.” When both of them were inside, Michaela asked, “Any news from Grandpa?”
“He is healthy, and Madam Lambert does not seem to be doing much, on the surface at least,” Min reported, “If you want to acquire more information, it would be best to ask young butler Hans.”
Young butler Hans was the newly conferred butler of the house. However, since young, he was brought up by both old butler Jiang -who retired last year- and Butler Soo. As an orphan, he wasn’t lacking in love because almost all of the maids and Head Maid Loreta doted on him. If one was to number the trusted people in the house with 1 being the highest, he undoubtedly would’ve been in the top 10.
(A/N: More importantly his looks are cute and lovable)
“Yeah, I’ll do that later.” Her eyes then wandered towards the window and Michaela day dreamed about the future. From the family to her Grandpa up to the company until they reached Lambert Mansion.
The house wasn’t that big, modest but extravagant if seen from afar. The building was wide but there was only 2 floors and a small basement near the horse stable. The house had a farm not far from the mansion, completed with a wide, open field. The air was almost free from pollution if Michaela was to be asked.
Upon entering the mansion, Niko Lambert was standing by the entrance, waiting for them to come in.
“Grandpa! How come you’re receiving us, you never done so before? Furthermore, you should be resting, it’s still extremely early,” Micheala worried and fussed over Grandpa Niko.
“Hah! And who do you expect to welcome you if not me? Of course, while I’m at leisure, I might as well receive you,” Grandpa Niko retorted, but you could tell he was joking around.
“Oh, Grandpa,” Michaela helplessly laughed at the old man. “C’mon, let’s go inside, it’s quite chilly here.” She then called Butler Soo and provided instructions.
“Oh, Michaela already came back?” The demon aunt made her appearance.
‘Heh… she didn’t expect me to be here. Sure enough, she was the mastermind. But the new of the plan being a failure wasn’t delivered yet. Ah, maybe the twins didn’t gain any clue on my condition for they just discarded me in a random room.’
“Indeed, Aunt, I scheduled the flight to directly return after the party,” Michaela stated a matter-of-fact tone.
Aunt Jane being mocked by Michaela was a fatal blow for her. So she eagerly taken the bait presented by Michaela. She pretended to be confused and asked, “But Agatha told me you chased after a man last night and didn’t come back.” Bingo. Aunt Jane was the genuine mastermind of that plan.
Grandpa Niko, confused, turned to regard Michaela’s cold face and anxiously asked, “What happened? Did something happen to you?”
“No, Grandpa, the twins merely left me with an unfamiliar guy and I wondered where they went. Thus, the guy courteously walked me into their supposed location but they weren’t there and it was also late so I decided to book a room,” Michaela stated half-truths, but it was enough to make Aunt Jane go pale in fright.
Grandpa Niko wasn’t the CEO of Dream Publishing Corporation for nothing. Listening to Michaela, he already guessed a gist of it and learnt the hardships of Michaela. Unfortunate girl… Niko was now more than eager to make Michaela the next CEO of the company. He simply glared at Jane who was currently horrified because of what Michaela said. Jane thought she really underestimated Niko Lambert’s IQ, Michaela didn’t even stated the key points yet he immediately comprehended the ins and outs of the situation.
“We’ll discuss this later, but for now we should eat. Michaela must be tried from the trip and need to regain her energy,” Jane tried to salvage herself and changed the focus to Michaela’s well being to distract Niko.
Grandpa Niko was successfully distracted and compromised with Jane for now. “Whatever it is we shall discuss it later. The food will get cold.” Niko didn’t pay any mind to Jane anymore and invited Michaela to the dining room.
“Thank you, Grandpa,” Michaela expressed her gratitude.
“Let’s eat now shall we?” Aunt Jane thickened her face just to be able to eat breakfast with the two.
Aunt Jane, Michaela Yu and Niko Lambert went directly to the study after dinner. Niko Lambert bore a serious face as he seated in the front part of his table, letting the two search for their own seat. After a few minutes, Niko started to talk,
“You should understand this but I will remind you again, I am stating Michaela Yu as the heiress. No objections came from our partners when I told them. This time I might as well remind you, Jane, you cannot force it out of my mouth to make you the CEO.” Niko’s eyes held a sharp glint and scared the hell out of Jane.
But nonetheless, Jane tried to reason with Niko, “Uncle! Why are you being unreasonable? She doesn’t even belong to this family! Why is she the one to inherit the company?!” Jane frustratingly complained. “Moreover, I’m the closest one to you that’s why I’m saying this. That girl doesn’t deserve our wealth; you merely adopted her and assisted her. Isn’t that enough? Blood is thicker than water, you should value family over a stranger.”
“You’ve had enough? Even if I didn’t name Mika as the heiress, neither you nor the other relatives would inherit the company. I initially donated half of my share to several charities and half to the son of the vice-chairman. This house would be given to Hans and half of the maids as well. The rest will be contracted to the vice-chairman,” Niko stated in a serious tone.
“What?” Jane became dumbfounded when she heard the news. “When did you decide all of this? You didn’t even consider my father and our relatives.”
“You wouldn’t discern this but I hate all of our relatives from the bottom of my heart. I also suspected how my brother died, that’s why.” Niko said indifferently. “Good thing your brother disappeared. If not, he would’ve inherited your mother’s personality like you did.”
“You’re lying to me. It’s definitely a lie!” Jane finally broke down and began screaming. When Jane didn’t show signs of stopping but instead, her condition became worse. Niko contacted the hospital to take care of her and eventually Jane undergoes treatment.
The twins heard the news about their mother being admitted in the mental hospital a few days later. Jason merely thought; ultimately, they decided to admit her there… one less worry. But for Agatha who Jane brought up and cared for, pushed all the blame onto Michaela and rushed out to California to see her mom.
Upon reaching the mansion, although she was haggard and had a bad jet lag. The first thing Agatha did was slam open Grandpa Niko’s study and shouted, “GRANDPA! Why did you put Mom in a mental hospital!” Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw Michaela walking by coincidentally.
“Is it because of that orphan girl?? What did she do to make you favour her? Mom was a splendid person. She was FINE! But that girl kept on brainwashing you! You think we don’t know? She’s a slut! And Mom knows it too, that was why she refused to let the girl stay—”
“ENOUGH!” Grandpa Niko cut off Agatha with a loud bang as his hand hit the table; Agatha immediately shut her mouth. “With that accusation do you think you would be qualified to live if not for being my granddaughter? We do have blood relation but only ¼ of it is mine, so don’t think highly of yourself.”
“If blood relations a thing now then that slut would be the most undeserving,” Agatha murmured as she gritted her teeth.
But Niko Lambert ignored her comment. “Your mother was confined a few days ago and diagnosed to be mentally ill. That was why we sent her there. Don’t assume things, especially when you only just got here.” He then impatiently dismissed Agatha.
Upon going out, Agatha warned in a low voice, “This is just the beginning.” Then threw daggers at Michaela with her glare.
“Should I be scared? I should be the one saying that to you,” Michaela taunted Agatha.
“Hmph!” Agatha turned to seek the butler to have him prepare a room for her.
