Chapter 5: On My Way To Grandpa
Editor: Aqua (the abused neko)
After leaving the hotel, all Michaela could think was, ‘what time is it?’ Her phone, her bag, neither was on her person. Fortunately, that man’s pants had a few wrinkled bills in its pockets.
‘I couldn’t believe I fell for a simple ploy. A drugged cup, such a classic scheme, why didn’t I realize it? If I didn’t have this money from the stranger to use in order to get back to the hotel, I would be forced to search for those twin devils and take them down; even if it cost me my reputation.’ Without the help of the man, Michaela didn’t know what to do with the shame building inside of her.
If there was a chance in the future, Michaela wanted to show her gratitude to the man. After all, he did help her get rid of the drugs effect and ‘funded’ her trip back to her hotel. He may have been like a beast in bed but at least he was gentle. Michaela didn’t want to imagine what would happen if she met a cruel man instead, she could’ve ended up dead.
Even though the staff of the hotel were curious and openly gossiping at the sight of Michaela Yu, they couldn’t just brazenly ask her what happened. But one of the early staff saw Michaela walking out of the VIP room. They assume that the girl was a ‘call girl’ and sneered at the unfortunate parents who gave birth to a beauty just for her to be a prostie.
(A/N: prostie = prostitute)
Ignoring that hell of a gossip, Michaela continued to wait for a cab. After getting in, the old driver observed the girl on oversized men clothes and began to ask, “Miss, destination?”
“To Starfish Hotel, Envoren,” Michaela replied indifferently.
The driver then started driving towards the destination. However, he was quite worried about the girl’s appearance. Finally, the driver couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Miss, you’re such an outstanding beauty, but could we stop for a change of clothes first?” the driver stiffly asked.
“I know, Sir, but the thing is I lost my belongings and could only wear this.” Michaela produced a helpless smile on her face.
Feeling enlightened, the driver offered, “Miss, if you don’t mind, I will pay for it first then you pay me out later.”
‘Such a courteous driver,’ Michaela complimented. “Thank you, Sir,” she thanked and smiled sweetly.
“You’re such a beauty, many men must be waiting to take a bite out of you,” the driver joked.
“Haaa… Sir, if only you knew…” Michaela didn’t admit nor denied.
“Hahaha, here’s the place. Let’s go inside!” The old driver stopped at the nearest clothing store. “Although it’s a bit low-priced compared to others, the clothes here are fairly decent,” he explained.
Michaela betted that the old driver was low on money, that was why they were visiting a cheap place. Nevertheless, her tastes on dresses were impeccable so there won’t be a problem, no matter the cost. She hurriedly picked a plain t-shirt, ragged jeans and a camouflage beret. After fitting it to her, the rushly picked set looked stunning on her.
“Miss, you’re a great handler of clothes! An ideal model!” the old driver praised her nonstop.
“Let’s go!” Michaela broadly smiled to the old driver.
Michaela then held the picture beside the driver. A family photo, it looked like the driver was the father standing together with his wife and their son. A peaceful photo where the family of three where each of them gave a warm smile, emitting a cozy feeling.
She couldn’t help but murmured, “Such a warm family…”
Although the old driver was puzzled when he heard of it, he still talked a bit about his family.
“Yeah, my wife works diligently at home just to make a homely atmosphere there. My son graduated last year but he still struggled getting a job because of the lack of papers. My wife had already passed away, and my son is living a stable life in Teari. That kid is incredible and super serious when it comes to work. He once had a twin sister, but she didn’t make it. Somehow we accepted the lost. That was until we lost the remaining woman in our family, his mother. So he decided to immigrate to Teari. He’s still angry at me for not coming along with him. Nevertheless, I never regretted that choice. He has his own life to live, he shouldn’t live in depressed and drowning in the memories of my wife.” The old driver gave a melancholy aura as he opened his heart to a beautiful stranger.
“May I ask what his name was?” Michaela wanted to assist this poor old driver in any way she could.
“His name is Yeon Sung-woo” the old driver energetically said. “My ancestors were from Korea; the surname was Yeon.”
The taxi stopped in front of Starfish Hotel.
“Wait for me here,” Michaela requested. The driver gave a “yes” then turned off the engine to wait for Michaela.
Upon reaching the reception, she directly asked “I’m Michaela Yu, room 405, password is MySelf. I need a spare key to my room.”
The woman immediately typed the information. Upon facing the young lady, she was surprised by the beauty but more surprised on the hickey in her collar bone. She instantly controlled herself to be calm.
“Miss, we need your fingerprint,” stated the receptionist.
“Okay, please hurry.” The receptionist compiled and placed the fingerprint scanner on the desk for quick access. “Here you go, Miss.” She gave the key card but reminded, “Please remember to bring it back after, thank you.”
“Thank you,” she politely smiled at the receptionist.
After going inside her room, Michaela picked up her wallet and grabbed a bunch of cash without looking. The driver hasn’t waited for a long time before Michaela came back.
“Here you go, Driver Yeon! The change are yours to keep. Please do come to Teari; I’ll be there for you along with your son,” Michaela asked the old driver while giving a tender smile.
“Hahaha, why not? I can’t refuse a request by a beauty,” the old driver joked as he thought the lady was just jesting.
“Here,” Michaela handed the driver a black calling card, “if you ever go to Teari, please do hand over this and they will know you’re one of my people.”
The calling card wasn’t the normal calling card she was handing over. Basically, Michaela Yu and all the other conferred heir of companies knew and used this system. Yellow was for common people, white was for business partners. Black was for people belonging to an heir. The red card was for families and close friends. Then finally, blue which was purely for the most trusted persons of the card giver.
Not just anyone could obtain this kind of calling card that could practically be used as an identification card. People of the rich tend announced this system only to their circle. It’s also non-transferrable for the people who use this system always updated their list of people. Upon receiving the card, the card will immediately register the receiver’s fingerprint.
(A/N: Ah, the system is complicated but luxurious)
However, the driver had no clue about the system. So he simply received the card without realizing its important.
Valid name: Yeon Woo
Identify: Korean Descent
Although Michaela didn’t have her phone, she sure knew it registered. Then she gave a deep smile.
“I better go now. Have a good day.” Michaela said her goodbyes.
Returning back to her hotel bed, she lied down and began to dwell on the things she put aside; like the one-night-stand, the evil twins and their demon mother. Until she recalled her flight.
“Oh gosh, why did I forget?” Michaela panicked and scrambled to find her papers and pack up her clothes.
Her phone wasn’t with her, but other things were. So it could be counted as fortunate. Still rummaging her things her hotel phone rang.
“Hello?” Michaela greeted.
[Miss Michaela Yu of room 405, yes?] the receptionist asked.
“Yes, is there something wrong?”
[Well, Mr. Lambert called the hotel asking for you. Shall we transfer the call?] Obviously the receptionist was accustomed to this.
“Yes please. Thank you for the trouble.”
[Hello? Mika?] on the other line was her grandpa.
“Grandpa, why did you call?” Michaela nervously asked.
[I was worried about you. You didn’t answer your phone when I tried calling. I thought you were busy at that time but when I called again the answering machine said you were still unavailable] Grandpa Niko explained, the worry in his voice was crystal clear.
“Grandpa, I lost my phone and asked the company to disable it because I can’t find it,” she bluffed.
Although Grandpa Niko knew she was telling half-truths, he didn’t probe anymore and simply said, [It’s fine if you’re okay, but please remember to call so I won’t be worried.]
“I’m sorry, Grandpa, I won’t do it again,” Michaela secretly sighed in relief.
[By the way, you’re coming home tomorrow?] Grandpa excitedly inquired.
“Yes, my flight was scheduled for tonight.”
[Oh good,] Grandpa Niko still wanted to say more but was cut-off by Michaela, which was suspicious.
“Dear Grandpa, I’m in a hurry, can we chat when I’m home?” So that demon aunt can see how furious I am. “… okay?”
Grandpa Niko didn’t have a choice but to concede, [Okay, fine. Bye.] Then ended the call.
Sigh… what’s at eating her? Something might have happened for her to be this flustered and packing so late, Grandpa Niko thought while staring at the phone.
“Regardless, I will have more chances to talk when she comes back.”
Transitioning back to Michaela Yu, she was currently getting more and more flustered with the situation. She was extremely grateful while at the same time she wanted to kill that fallen angel. Who in the world would have made it so it was like her phone disappeared from the world. Of course, it was definitely that tyrant. I don’t know whose rich man’s son he is but I wished we never meet ever again. She remembered she couldn’t recognize the man’s face due to how dark the room was and how she quickly fled this morning.
‘I won’t think about it anymore, I’m going back to the arms of my dearest Grandpa. I’ll have the revenge plan by the time I get back home.’ Hidden beneath Michaela Yu’s lovely, innocent face was a face tainted with evil.
