I am the crown prince? - Chapter 21
The sun disappeared, and the moon took its rightful place in the sky. Zheng Lu sat in front of the cottage, gazing into it and counted the stars that covered it. It was the first time for Mimi to see such a sight of many stars shining brightly up there. It moved around and danced in harmony. The view was normal to see, but not to Mimi. After all, it was a different world with different things that didn’t exist before. The air was fresher and cleaner than the modern world. Zheng Lu felt peaceful as he filled his lungs with it.
Mimi got a new chance and a new life to live, but as she became Zheng Lu, it all turned into danger. He experienced a pain he never felt before; it was so intense that he wished to die at that moment. He wondered if this realm is a fantasy one, like the western movies he watched, with dragons and elves and dwarfs as well. What made him conclude that, was the disappearance of the wound itself.
Mimi was a homely person, but at the same time, she was a curious being as well. Just give her wings, and she shall fly. She finally got the opportunity to be free without anyone holding her down.
“Your majesty,” Bo called out. Zheng Lu didn’t reply and instead patted the ground for her to sit.
Bo took slow steps and sat near the prince. For her, it was weird for a person to gaze into the sky lovingly and peacefully like the world was a beautiful place. The sky looked the same for her every day.
“It’s so peaceful,” the prince said after a long sigh.
“Do you like star gazing, your highness?” she wondered.
“No, it’s the first time. This world is so beautiful,” Zheng Lu said without revealing much.
Bo couldn’t see the beauty of things as the only thing she cared about was surviving.
“You need to feel the beauty of things while it lasts, or you will die in regret,” Zheng Lu advised his maidservant. When he didn’t receive any reply, he averted his eyes from the sky to check on her, to find her looking at him in a daze.
“Bo?” he called.
“I can see it now,” she stated after a moment of silence.
“You can?” he asked in surprise and awe.
“Yes! I can now,” she continued staring at him, her eyes shining like stars.
Zheng Lu thought that she was talking about the sky, while in fact, she was talking about him. If Zheng Lu knew that, his face would turn green and die from embarrassment.
“Dr. Cheng and Li Jie are late,” the prince blurted out when he felt uncomfortable under the maid’s gaze. He wanted her to wake up from whatever daydream she was having.
“Well, they went to deliver a baby! Duh! That might take time,” the maid replied as she looked at anything but him, her face red for who knows why.
‘Daydreaming while your eyes set on someone without noticing is creepy; I will avoid doing that from now on!’ Zhen Lu decided in his heart.
“When would you meet, his highness the emperor?” Bo asked, wanting to leave this place.
“He will come, I don’t know when. But we will stay here till then,” he replied.
“Would his highness take us back with him to the palace?” she asked, her voice showed her desire to leave.
“I am not going back there, but you can,” he replied.
“Wait! You will leave me there alone!” she exclaimed in surprise.
“It’s dangerous for me there.”
“It’s dangerous for you here too.”
“I will be fine! the palace is more dangerous.”
“Not when you are now the crown prince!” she blurted out.
“Huh? What are you talking about?” he demanded. Bo noticed her slip and wanted to leave. But Zheng Lu held her hand firmly.
“Tell me right now!” he demanded again.
“I am sorry! I heard it from some people when I went to fill the bucket with water,” she confessed, her heart beating fast inside her chest from fear.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” his tone was sharp as he asked her.
“Dr. Cheng told me it’s better if the emperor told you himself,” she whispered when she felt his grip getting stronger.
Zheng Lu released her and apologized when he saw that he left his fingerprints on her wrist, “I am sorry, forgive me.”
“It’s alright! I knew that you would get mad about going back to the palace. I should have held my tongue more,” she replied.
Zheng Lu didn’t feel his guilt getting any less. How come a soft prince had such a stronghold? Let’s not forget that Zheng Lu was, in fact, a princess.
“I am the crown prince? huh?” he asked himself in wonder and annoyance.
In the palace, and precisely in a secret room hidden under the youngest prince’s chamber, a maid spotted inside; she didn’t eat or drink enough since the rotten prince put her there.
She thanked the sky that she wasn’t, in fact, pregnant. She wondered if the first prince thought of her, or even tried to find her.
“He doesn’t care,” She bitterly stated when she thought of the days she spent crying and calling his name, but he never came. He had used her and then threw her away.
A guard unlocked the doors and came in. The guard mocked the young lady in his heart, masked his expression of disgust.
“You are free,” he informed her.
Lin Lan was surprised and couldn’t help but ask, “Did his highness, the first prince ordered you?”
“No! It was the young prince orders, to release you after a few days. It was your punishment as he didn’t want the emperor to get a glimpse of you,” he stated.
“What does that mean?” she asked her voice broken.
“It doesn’t matter!” he told her, taking a bag of gold and threw it on the ground.
“There are gold and a message written by his highness the fourth prince, or let’s say the crown prince per the new title,” he continued.
With shaking hands, she opened the bag slowly. She didn’t care about the gold as she retrieved the letter and opened it.
