Demon King's Repayment - chapter 7
“Sir is back. Whose child is she?”
“Sir has accepted an apprentice. Congratulations.”
“Sir, you’re back. This is a fresh fish we got from the stream just now. I was about to send it to Sir for a taste. I took a rest and happened to meet you here.”
“When is Sir free? I have a newborn grandson and I hope you could give him a name.”
“My mother-in-law said that she was asleep when she saw Heaven and Earth and couldn’t sleep well. She also wanted to ask you for a Feng Shui talisman.”
…
To Yuan Xiang’s surprise, the pedestrians whom they bumped into on the way, regardless of their status, showed great enthusiasm and respect for Yu Yao and he seemed accustomed to it as he coped up with each of them easily.
The stone bridge was the only entrance and exit of the town. At the bridge, there were many vendors selling needles and clothes, fruits, and food and some people were showing off their juggling skills. The scene was very lively.
All of this felt very novel to her. She had always lived in a small village with little population so this was the first time she had come across such a colorful ancient bazaar since her transmigration.
She suddenly stopped and then pulled Yu Yao’s sleeve.
“What’s the matter?” Yu Yao followed her gaze and looked forward.
In the midst of the crowded bridgehead, a figure that was larger than the average person stood abruptly. The figure had broad shoulders and a small head with a dark face. He was standing on the side of the bridge with his head bent down to look at the hot rice cakes sold at a stall.
The old man selling rice cakes greeted the passing pedestrians with a smile and seemed like he did not see the figure that was almost touching the top of his head.
Yu Yao laughed. As expected, the little apprentice was as talented as shown by the Trigram. She was so talented that she had already opened up the Yin and Yang eyes at such a tender age. What a good seedling to inherit his legacy.
“The name of this demon is Zhu. Although his black head looks strange, he has a calm temperament. He likes to walk in the crowd but he doesn’t disturb others most of the time. Xiang’er, you don’t have to mind him.”
“Shifu, do you really see it like me?” When Yuan Xiang realized that shifu could see those things just like her, she was very happy.
All these years, those demons clearly existed in the world and lived by their side but only she could see them. She could only keep it in the bottom of her heart and had nowhere to talk about it. There was finally someone she could communicate with freely without pretense.
“Yes. We also have all kinds of weird little demons in my village. Although they’re a bit skinny, most of them aren’t malicious to humans.” She recalled the days in her Village. Although some demons scared her, they did not really hurt her.
“Demons and humans are different. They are uncertain and elusive. Although two races live on a demarcation line, most of the time, they won’t disturb each other. However, there are also big demons which arise on a whim and cause harm to the world and can’t be prevented.”
Yu Yao’s gaze was casted into the mountains on the south of Queqiu Town, which was once the lair of an ancient demon tribe, the Sirius clan. Although they don’t exist anymore, there were still other terrifying existences.
“Xiang’er, remember that although we live at the foot of the mountain, we’re not allowed to enter the depths of Celestial Wolf mountain at will, let alone provoke the big demons that live in it. There are some of them that even Shifu can’t handle.”
Yuan Xiang was in a good mood at the moment and could hear anything. She glanced at the endless green mountains in the distance and promised, “Okay, I won’t provoke them.”
The Shifu and apprentice pair walked along the bluestone road in the town. They’ve passed through the most prosperous area so the houses and pedestrians on both sides have gradually become scarce.
There was a change in the weather. The sky that shone brightly got covered with dark thunderclouds then it started pouring.
Pedestrians evaded the rain. Yu Yao put the hat on top of Yuan Xiang’s head, picked her up, and ran forward.
“Xiang’er we’ve arrived home. It’s the yard in front.” He stretched out his finger to point it to her.
Yuan Xiang held the edge of the bamboo hat and looked forward through the rain curtain.
At the end of the road, by the foot of the green hill, was a cool courtyard built with water-milled brick walls. The green pines were stacked in it and the bamboo reclining chair was not luxurious but was cool and comfortable.
Before rushing to the front, the courtyard door suddenly opened and a pair of slender hands holding bamboo umbrellas stretched out from inside.
“Mrs. Yun, why are you out?” Yu Yao stepped on the muddy water and ran forward a few steps, then took the bamboo umbrella.
Half of the face of the person holding the umbrella was revealed. She looked like an unforgettable classic beauty in a green dress as she stood by the door frame. It was a pity that she had a sickly thin body that seemed like a weak willow easily swayed by the wind.
Yuan Xiang knew that this was Shifu’s wife who he kept on talking about several times along the way. She cleverly called her Shiniang from Yu Yao’s arms.
Yun Niang nodded: “You didn’t bring an umbrella so I thought of welcoming you by the door. Is this the new apprentice?”
Her voice was cold, her tone was flat, there was no particular expression on her face, and one couldn’t see through her.
The young lady’s body was obviously not in a good condition. She was pale and it seemed like she lacked blood. She wore a dress and had a drape on her shoulders which was meticulous.
Yuan Xiang suspected that, not to mention such a rain, even a strong wind might blow her away.
Miao:
Sirius Star lit Tiānláng (天狼) means the Celestial Wolf in Chinese astrology denoting invasion and plunder.
I’ll keep the tribe as Sirius as I find it more cool but I’ll name the mountain as Celestial Wolf.
