Demon King's Repayment - chapter 5
In the back room, the mother and eldest sister sat on the edge of the bed as they cried. The mother shed tears and pulled her to her side, reached her hand out to touch her head, looked at her from head to toe, and choked. It was hard to speak.
Her mother’s palms were scalding as she rubbed Yuan Xiang’s skin nostalgically with the roughness of all year round’s work, which conveyed a kind of gentleness that belonged to her mother alone.
But that was all.
Yuan Xiang waited for a long time, only to see crackling tears. The little expectation that ignited in her heart slowly cooled. So she withdrew her hand.
“Mother, I’m leaving now.”
The eldest sister Yuan Chunhua wrapped a piece of pancake and two or three pieces of clothes into a homespun bag. After hearing this, she cried out.
“Mother, don’t sell my sister. Sell me if you want.” She cried.
“Don’t talk nonsense.” The mother rebuked.
The crying drew the children playing outside the house. Yuan Dabao, Yuan Xiaobao, and Yuan Zhaodi. They saw that there were fragrant things on their sister’s hands at a glance and were eager to eat pancakes.
Mother Yuan looked at the crying sons with embarrassment and then at the little daughter who was about to leave. She reached out her hand to tear a small piece from the round cake, put it into the hands of the elder son, and then tore it off again for the toddler son. Then she pushed away the noisy Yuan Zhaodi who was on the ground, stuffed the remaining cakes into the baggage and hung it on Yuan Xiang’s arm.
Grandmother Yuan had been in bed for many years. When Yuan Xiang entered her room, the dark room was filled with a musty rancid smell. Yuan Xiang still clearly remembered that when she had just been born, her sturdy grandmother stood on the street, cursing for a day with her arms on her hips. She was ashamed and embarrassed by her scolding.
But maybe because of getting older and hearing the news that she was leaving, the dying grandma, with her toothless mouth, tremblingly fumbled out a pack of red paper sealed candy from the clay pot on the bed and forcibly stuffed it into her hands. This bag of candy had been left on for many years. Even the red color of the wrapper had faded. Yuan Xiang squeezed it. Grandma had hidden it for many years so she put it together with the chipped pancake.
The family sent Yuan Xiang and the “Mr. Xiangzhi” to their door.
After she traveled to this world for seven years, her identity have changed from daughter, sister, elder sister, and granddaughter into an apprentice. But she didn’t plan to give any emotions to her apprenticeship. Yuan Xiang calculated silently in her heart, that when she gets a little older, she would find a way to leave this man who wanted to be her Shifu, and live alone.
Yu Yao stretched out his hand to her. It was the palm of an adult male. It was broad and powerful, neither too hot nor cold. His hand, which had just the right warmth, clenched her small one tightly.
Yuan Xiang looked back for the last time. There was a simple thatched cottage and a dilapidated fence, a family of seven surrounded by the gate, a chicken head with a long neck, two pointed fox ears, and a few small things that probed their head above the wall.
The afterglow of the setting sun on the horizon became rich and gorgeous.
Yuan Xiang bid farewell to the home where she had lived for seven years, held Yu Yao’s hand, and walked towards the depths of the sunset.
Brother Yuan Zhao looked at the back of his sister and finally understood what had happened.
“Waah, I don’t want to eat pancakes anymore, won’t eat pancakes. Mother, don’t sell my sister.”
His angry cry was sent by the cool summer breeze, making Yuan Xiang’s bitter heart a little better.
(Miao: Shifu = Master)
Yuan Xiang was walking on the trail in the wilderness as the sky dimmed little by little. The lights of the village behind her were completely invisible and the road ahead was chaotic and dim.
Yu Yao didn’t have any intention to stop and rest. In the silent jungle, one could clearly hear the clear footsteps of the two, as they stepped on the grass and dead branches.
The night was full of colors, foxes, and worms screaming, and the branches of the forest that were shadowy, as if countless horrible existences which had been hiding were quietly peeping at the two people in the night’s wilderness.
Yuan Xiang was a little scared. Because she really knew that there were lives in this world that were different from human beings, it made her more terrified of being in such a wilderness more than the others.
Her nerves were tense all the way, worried about which dark corner would a demon with terrible form suddenly jump out at any moment.
The seven-year-old didn’t even have a familiar person beside her, only a cheap Shifu who she had just met for a few hours.
No, to be precise, she didn’t even know if this so-called Shifu was human.
Yuan Xiang quietly raised her head and glanced at the man holding her hand. The man’s brows were sloppy and his skin was smooth like jade. It looked so unreal under the moonlight and stars.
Was he also a demon?
This thought caused Yuan Xiang to get goosebumps.
Yu Yao stopped and looked at the little apprentice who was following by his side. The little apprentice was only six or seven years old, so she should be tired, maybe a little scared. After all, she was still a little girl of small height.
“Is Xiang’er scared?” Yu Yao squatted down in front of her, “It’s okay. They usually won’t dare to come out with me here.”
Yuan Xiang looked at him and was not ashamed to tell him that the root of her fear came from him.

haha I love our MC my heart is a bit hurt but in a bitter way that like a good cup of coffee. I do love having characters I can dislike freely… mostly angry at the grandmother splitting the pancake, like wtf You can t let this girl have ONE THING ONE DMN THING. No one wants your 100-year-old candy dirty with low-quality guilt.
sorry I just want to dislike her even if its irrational
