Demon King's Repayment - chapter 25
Of course, even if he wanted to eat again, he couldn’t ask for it. He’s still trying hard maintaining his dismissive indifference. Unfortunately, the tail dragging behind him had been sweeping side to side impatiently, slightly betraying his demeanor.
As Yuan Xiang lifted the lid of the pot, steam rose and the aroma of beef wafted out, filling the kitchen.
Nan He sat up straight.
“The soup is almost done. This bone is now useless.” Yuan Xiang looked at the pot of beef bone soup and picked the beef bone out using the chopsticks then placed it into a bowl.
Then, under Nan He’s longing gaze, she carried a large bucket of chicken and duck feed mixed with chopped vegetable leaves and leftovers then walked out of the kitchen.
Nan He was a little puzzled. In the past few days, every time there was something delicious, Yuan Xiang would always share it with him. She even placed him on the same bench during meals. He subconsciously got used to it. What happened?
The little wolf limped as he slowly followed her out. The human being carried a wooden barrel and placed food in the chicken coops, duck coops, and goose sheds. She then placed the still steaming cow bones in front of the doghouse under the tree.
The shameless black dog in the yard rushed over happily, wagging its tail desperately and flatteringly, while burying its head in the bowl that should have belonged to him. And the woman even unscrupulously reached out to touch the head and ears of the black dog then rubbed it along its fat body for a while.
Anger surged in Nan He’s heart. He wanted to bite off the black dog’s neck. Then who would the woman give food to?
The black dog felt a murderous gaze. He looked up. Not far from him was a cold wolf with its pair of eyes staring at him.
It was just a small young wolf but from the day the owner brought him back, Xiao Hei perceived with his animal intuition that it was a huge and terrifying existence he could not casually provoke.
It grumbled twice, then pushed the bowl that he used every day towards the direction of the little wolf, indicating that he wanted to give it to him.
Who wanted to use that dirty bowl that dog had touched to eat! Nan He got even angrier.
Only then did Yuan Xiang discover that Nan He followed her.
“Why did Xiao Nan come out? Your legs are still not fine. Don’t run around.” She brought Nan He to the stone table under the sycamore tree then saw Xiao Hei curled up unhappily with his face looking away.
“So do you want to eat this beef bone? This one has been simmered for too long and has no taste. Later, Shiniang will use the beef broth to make beef noodles and sauced beef. We will eat that together.”
The furry little wolf snorted. He didn’t want to eat cow bones at all. It was a pity that the drooping fur ears just a while ago had stood up upon hearing her and were now shaking happily. It revealed his heart.
After Yuan Xiang finished feeding the chickens and ducks, she patted her apron, washed her hands, and sat down on the stone table. She took out a stack of yellow talisman paper and a box of vermilion cinnabar then began drawing talismans for practice, which was her daily homework.
Nan He curiously laid on the desk, watching her every move. The human’s white fingers held a brown pen, turning her fingertips light pink.
The pen was stained with crimson cinnabar and the dragon was penning on the yellow paper. The aura between heaven and earth swam along with the movement of the bright red line.
The light breeze came slowly and the winter sun was warm.
Time passed slowly. The chickens in the yard were croaking and the sound of Shiniang stirring the pot with a spoon came from the kitchen.
Yuan Xiang wrote very intently and the breeze gently raised her sideburns.
The surroundings became silent.
“Is Sir at home?”
A woman’s voice sounded beside Yuan Xiang.
Yuan Xiang got startled with goosebumps when she was writing.
The evil spirit outside the gate, who was afraid to enter earlier, had gotten inside the courtyard at some unknown time.
Beautifully dressed, she stood quietly beside Yuan Xiang.
“My Shifu is not here.”
Yuan Xiang answered very concisely, without asking anything more. The sudden appearance of this woman made her terrified. Although Shifu had been away for many years, as Shifu’s breath was still at home, no demon had ever dared to approach this courtyard, let alone intrude in such a silent manner.
Under the eaves outside the gate of the yard, there was a mirror that Yuan Xiang hung up by herself and a talisman she pasted to exorcise demons and ghosts. However, this woman could come in without disturbance at all, which was proof that her Taoism was not strong enough.
“Isn’t he here? Then when will he come back? I can wait for him here.” The woman nodded slightly as she spoke, humble and polite.
Yuan Xiang looked at her secretly. The beauty’s hair was not messy, her face was solemn and deserted. She was well-dressed, looked neat, and her manners revealed good etiquette, completely like a lady of a rich family. Even if she seemed too humane, she lacked the breath that a living person should have. It brought a sense of uncoordinated fear to people.
“I don’t know when he will come back, you should go back.”
As Yuan Xiang spoke, she stepped back and secretly buckled a talisman with her fingers behind her back. The other hand touched the furry little wolf from the table, lifted him up and threw him back while gesturing to tell him to retreat into the house.
