Demon King's Repayment - chapter 2
When she transmigrated, after she barely opened her eyes, the first thing she was able to see clearly was her mother’s face filled with disappointment while the first thing she heard was the sound of her father’s sighing as he squatted outside the door frame.
She also knew that although she was reborn after death, she was still a person without parents.
Because of her birth, Father Yuan finally realized that he won’t be able to get an heir to continue his name, so he asked Taoist Wu of the village east to give her a name and finally named her as Yuan Xiang. The meaning was Yuan family’s prosperity.
After being named, the Yuan family got two boys one after another. Since then, her mother’s face turned brighter and her spine straightened at her husband’s house, so she never forgot to praise Taoist Wu in front of neighbors for many years about his supernatural powers.
In order to see more about this legend, Yuan Xiang had used her small arms and short legs many times to climb up the low wall of Taoist Wu’s house to see him acting as an immortal.
Every now and then, the villagers within the periphery of the courtyard would see him standing at the entrance of the hall as he worshipped the seven stars, put the incense bowl, sang and danced.
It was extremely lively. But it was a pity that no matter how hard he danced and how superbly he performed, Yuan Xiang couldn’t see half of her aura in that colorful hall. To be sure, neither Huang Daxian (Taoist deity).
Taoist Wu made finger gestures calling himself Hu Santai’s grandma (fox demon) and sometimes incarnate of the Huang Family True Taoist Monarch (One of twelve Taoist). He said that he was able to understand ghosts and save people from their hardships, then patted his chest, promising to cure all diseases. The villagers who had come to ask for help shivered and worshipped him.
So Yuan Xiang had known that she could only regard this kind of god-given ritual as an entertaining event and could not get a glimpse of what she wanted to know from it.
The wall she used to climb was a good place with a good view. On the side, a little boy with a fox tail often climbed up and on the other side there was a weasel who had not yet transformed or a hanging little girl with a pair of bunny ears.
Everyone tacitly “watched the fun” without disturbing each other.
With more visits, the teenager with a fox tail discovered that Yuan Xiang, a human cub, could actually see him. He was very curious about it. He stretched out his hand, which had a few hazelnuts and chestnuts that he had brought from the mountains, to hand Yuan Xiang. Everyone ate the fruit as they watched the human female’s performance in the yard.
It was said that after the Yuan family got two males, although the respect had been earned, the standard of living had deteriorated. A family of eight ate chaffy vegetables. Days were getting harder and harder. Summer was better but in winter, clothes and food would become a serious problem that the family couldn’t solve.
Yuan Xiang, who had traveled before, lived in a well-known and famous family, belonging to the upper class of society.
The family’s economic conditions were superior and the material life was abundant. She had enjoyed excellent educational resources since childhood.
After she returned from studying in a prestigious overseas school, she entered the family business directly. Her life was bright and she was the envy of everyone. But she didn’t know who her father was. Her mother was a career-oriented strong woman. She was independent, strong, yet was unmarried her whole life.
Ever since Yuan Xiang could remember, her mother always had sharp makeup and exquisite clothes, always came and went in high heels. Even if she occasionally stopped and met her daughter, she looked stern and rigid. In her childhood, in that luxurious villa, accompanying her was the housekeeping aunt which kept changing and, of course, there were more and more cats and puppies around her.
Transmigrating overnight, suddenly faced with such a barren and backward living environment, she should have been very uncomfortable. But Yuan Xiang didn’t feel uncomfortable in her heart. She was even grateful for being able to get the opportunity to survive in another world. When she died in a car accident, she strongly wanted to live.
Even though life in that world was lonely, she still wanted to continue living, not die.
The elder sister, who walked along the ridge with Yuan Xiang, noticed the change in her sister’s mood, so she picked a wild flower by the side of the road and pinned it to Yuan Xiang’s hair.
“You are so partial to the third sister, I also want to have flowers.” The second sister, Yuan Zhaodi, pursed her mouth in dissatisfaction.
Yuan Xiaobao, who was just one year old on Yuan Chunhua’s back, also stretched out his small hand and yelled vaguely. “Flower, flower.”
So Yuan Chunhua picked a lot of wild flowers, weaved tiara for her sisters and her younger brother. The sisters and brother laughed as they walked home.
Bright daylight, flying grass and trees, children running on the ridge.
Life was obviously hard and busy, but it was such a lively and simple life which made life full of fireworks and made up a small piece of loss in Yuan Xiang’s once lonely childhood.
On the other end of the dirt road, a gray-haired old man in a gorgeous satin clothing walked toward them. He had white beard and hair, but his complexion was very ruddy and he was walking slowly.
Yuan Xiang glanced at his smiling face, froze for a moment, and instantly got goosebumps.
This old gentleman was no different from ordinary people and there was nothing strange about him. But the more so, the more frightened Yuan Xiang became.
