Crying While Filling the Pit I Dug - Chapter 96
The sun cast its gentle light, stirring Song Miaomiao from her slumber. With a stretch, she let out an involuntary, “Meow.”
Where was that kitten? Its voice was undeniably adorable.
As her eyelids fluttered open, she saw an expanded blue sky, adorned with wisps of white clouds and the familiar sight of gray tiles. Yet, something seemed amiss. Why was this tile so unusually large? It spanned a size that could easily accommodate a person lying down.
Her curiosity piqued, she reached out to touch the oversized tile.
Wait, whose furry paws were these?
In disbelief, she withdrew her hand, only to find her paws mirroring her actions.
Panicked, she sat up abruptly and extended her other hand, but it too resembled a paw.
With a mixture of confusion and alarm, Song Miaomiao couldn’t contain herself any longer and let out another, “Meow!”
From downstairs, an elderly voice called out, “Whose cat has managed to find its way onto the roof and can’t seem to find its way down? It’s been meowing for a long time.”
[The system has been successfully loaded and is starting, please wait.]
Her initial shock quickly subsided. After all, she was no stranger to traversing through different worlds. So what if she was now a cat? As long as she could still encounter the male lead.
Yet, a question lingered: Was the male lead of this world a human or a cat?
Ultimately, it didn’t matter as long as the male lead wasn’t a dog.
Song Miaomiao: [System Oppa, who am I? And in which book?]
System Oppa: [Book title “The Fate of the Cat,” Novel Type: Original—Romance—Modern—Love. You are the female lead, the cat demon.]
Song Miaomiao adjusted her posture, experimenting with different poses to better accommodate her newfound form.
“The Fate of the Cat”, the female lead, the cat demon.
God had helped her again. Just now, Song Miaomiao was wondering if she had transmigrated into a certain book and turned into a cannon fodder cat, but fortunately not. In this world, she was the protagonist, and needless to say, the other protagonist was the male lead.
Song Miaomiao: [By the way, System Oppa, what’s the name of the male lead?]
System Oppa: [Han Chuan.]
Song Miaomiao: [Okay, I see.]
This was a fantasy novel set in a modern background, with demons.
Song Miaomiao’s original body was that of a Chinese pastoral cat with yellow and white fur. She was raised at the male lead’s grandfather’s house. The cat began to get along with the people there happily and comfortably. Later, the cat accidentally consumed an elixir left by an ancient alchemist and turned into a cat demon…
System Oppa: [Author Miaomiao, the system Oppa has detected that the male lead Han Chuan is within 50 meters of you. The main plot has officially started, and your first task is to be rescued from the roof by the male lead. Nature of the First Task: The plot of the original novel that had been published. Bonus Points: 100 points.]
Male lead?
Song Miaomiao immediately stood up—or rather, hunched over and crawled on all fours across the roof. It was quite troublesome adjusting from walking on two legs to four.
She gradually got used to this way of walking and made her way towards the eaves. Just as she emerged, she heard a crisp voice from downstairs shouting, “Tiger, how did you climb up onto the roof?”
At this time, Han Chuan was a high school student with a round, cropped haircut. Song Miaomiao waved her paws excitedly when she saw him, touching her forehead with one paw and then extending it towards him, saying, “Meow.”
In a sudden movement, she stretched out a paw, still a bit unaccustomed to the balance, and almost lost her footing, nearly falling off the edge.
Han Chuan was taken aback. The cat was teetering on the edge of the eaves.
“Tiger, be careful, don’t move. I’ll save you right now.”
Song Miaomiao sat obediently and waited for the male lead to come to her rescue. She was on top of the roof of a tile-roofed house in a rural area, and another thin, black-haired boy came out of the house, about the same age as Han Chuan.
The boy shouted, “Han Chuan, what’s wrong? Why are you shouting?”
Han Chuan replied, “Shitou, my cat climbed onto the roof of your house and can’t get down now. Do you have a ladder in your house? I’ll climb up and carry her down.”
Shitou, formerly known as Shiqiang, had adopted this nickname. He looked up at the roof and found himself face-to-face with the Chinese pastoral cat.
“Don’t worry about it,” he reassured Han Chuan, “cats often climb onto the roof of my house. If it has the ability to climb up, it surely has the ability to come down.”
“No!” Song Miaomiao immediately let out a distressed “meow”.
Han Chuan interjected, “I don’t know how it got up there, but it really can’t come down now. Where is your ladder? I’ll borrow it.”
Shitou shrugged. “Why bother with a cat? It can jump off the roof by itself.”
Jump down? Was he kidding?
Song Miaomiao protested again with another “meow”.
Han Chuan decided, “Shitou, you don’t need to lend it. I’ll go home and get the ladder from Grandpa’s house.” Then, addressing the cat on the roof, he said, “Tiger, don’t be afraid.”
Shitou nodded. “Okay, follow me to get my ladder.”
“Thank you,” Han Chuan said gratefully.
Han Chuan and Shitou carried the ladder to the corner of the house together. Shitou helped hold the ladder steady while Han Chuan climbed to the top and spread his arms out. “Tiger, come quickly,” he called.
Song Miaomiao was thrilled, but she was afraid of leaping all at once. With Han Chuan standing on the ladder, the force of her jump might be too strong, risking his fall. So, she had no choice but to restrain herself and leaned softly into the male lead’s arms.
Han Chuan gently embraced her with one hand while descending the ladder with the other.
System Oppa: [Task completed. Reward: 100 points.]
Shitou looked at the docile cat in Han Chuan’s arms and poked Song Miaomiao’s head. “Han Chuan, did you really name this cat Tiger?”
Shitou looked at the docile cat in Han Chuan’s arms and poked Song Miaomiao’s head. “Han Chuan, did you really name this cat Tiger?”
Song Miaomiao stretched out her paw and gently patted his hand away. Why did you pat her head, kid?
Shitou withdrew his hand, a bit puzzled. “Is this kitty so unfriendly?”
Han Chuan intervened, stroking the top of Song Miaomiao’s head with his other hand, causing her to immediately nuzzle against his palm in comfort.
Shitou pursed his lips. “This cat really recognizes its master.”
Han Chuan smiled and explained, “Well, she’s my cat after all. Look at her yellow and white fur. Calling her Tiger seems fitting.”
Song Miaomiao just blinked in response.
