Crying While Filling the Pit I Dug - Chapter 109
Looking up at him, Song Miaomiao suddenly saw a look of shock and disbelief wash over his face. Then, she collapsed to the ground.
What in the world? Did she turn to her original form?
As Song Miaomiao’s clothes fell to the ground, the flowers fell atop her head, covering her view. Panicked thoughts raced through her mind. Would Han Chuan be frightened to discover her true form, akin to Bai Suzhen’s transformation? In her distress, she twisted until her clothes fell away.
Han Chuan gasped, his hand covering his mouth, his eyes wide as he stared unblinkingly at her form.
Thankfully, he didn’t seem paralyzed by shock.
For a while, they stared at each other in bewilderment until Han Chuan finally found his voice, “Miaomiao, Miamiao?”
Song Miaomiao replied, “It’s me.”
Relief washed over her as she realized her voice was still human. At least she could communicate with him.
Han Chuan slowly lowered himself to her level, his face etched with astonishment, “Tiger?”
Song Miaomiao confirmed, “Yes, it’s me.”
Han Chuan couldn’t comprehend it, “Have you… become a demon?”
Song Miaomiao nodded, “Yes.”
Exhaling heavily, Han Chuan murmured, “I always felt a connection between the two of you at times.”
Song Miaomiao perked up, surprised. “Weren’t you scared that I might be a demon?”
Han Chuan shook his head, then nodded again, saying, “I was a bit frightened just now, but because it’s you, I’m not afraid.”
Hearing such touching words of love, Song Miaomiao felt deeply moved.
Boldly, Han Chuan reached out to stroke Song Miaomiao’s hair, and she willingly leaned into his touch.
Han Chuan then tenderly enveloped Song Miaomiao in his arms, gathering up her clothes from the ground, folding them neatly, and placing them on the bench. He scanned their surroundings vigilantly, relieved to find the area secluded and the night providing cover, ensuring no one noticed their peculiar situation.
“Miaomiao,” Han Chuan began tentatively, “did you transform back to your original form because… because I kissed you?”
Song Miaomiao nodded, “It seems so.”
Han Chuan gently caressed her head, saying, “I’ve often dreamed of you since I was a child. Sometimes in a Palace, sometimes in the mountains… Could those dreams be memories from our past life?”
Song Miaomiao replied, “Perhaps.”
Reflecting on the concept of reincarnation, Song Miaomiao realized that Han Chuan’s quick acceptance of her demon form might be influenced by his recurrent dreams. Subconsciously, he might believe in the existence of past lives, making the presence of demons less surprising to him.
In a hushed tone, Han Chuan asked, “You’ve been with me through all these lifetimes?”
Song Miaomiao affirmed, “Yes.”
Han Chuan’s emotions swelled, “Thank you… thank you for seeking me out. Do you know? I’ve dreamed several times of you passing away… It’s as if we were in a grand hall, surrounded by people, and your blood was everywhere. I held you, watching you cry, but you couldn’t be saved no matter what.”
In that first life, when Song Miaomiao died, tears streamed down her face as her heart ached with guilt. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I didn’t know at that time. I never expected all these things to happen because of me.”
Han Chuan gently wiped away her tears with his thumb, offering comfort, “It’s okay, as long as you’re still here with me. There were also a few times when I dreamed of you waiting for me in a pavilion, dressed in finery. You always had many gifts to give, but suddenly, one day, when I returned to the pavilion, you weren’t there. I pretended you had lost the shuttlecock and went searching for you. Later, I dreamed that I married you.”
Song Miaomiao’s tears flowed more freely. “Did you love me when I was waiting for you in the pavilion?”
Han Chuan pondered her question, then asked, “Are you referring to the dreams I had?”
Choking back her sobs, Song Miaomiao replied, “Yes.”
Han Chuan shook his head, saying, “I don’t know. All my dreams are fragments. Sometimes I feel like a bystander, watching events unfold like scenes in a movie. Other times, I feel like I’m living in the dream, but it’s always just fragments. There’s no sound, no voices, not even your name.”
“The first time I saw you at the school gate, I was happy. I can’t describe the feeling. The person I had waited for seventeen or eighteen years finally stood before me.”
“At that moment, I resolved to chase after you no matter what. When I found out you were in our class, I couldn’t sit still for a minute. I longed to talk to you, to hold you. But surrounded by so many classmates, I couldn’t gather my thoughts. I was nervous, afraid. Perhaps these bizarre dreams are unique to me, and maybe you’ve never dreamt of me. I feared I might scare you away.”
Song Miaomiao blamed herself, “I’m sorry I didn’t meet you sooner. If I had known, I would have told you everything when I saw you for the first time after I became human. It’s all my fault. You took the initiative to come over and strike up a conversation with me, and my heart was filled with sweetness and curiosity. I wondered what you would do next, so I didn’t say anything.”
Han Chuan smiled and reassured her, “Fool, don’t apologize. I’m very happy. My heart is racing with joy. It’s never too late for happiness.”
Song Miaomiao placed her cat’s paw in his palm, asking, “Really?”
Han Chuan nodded, holding her paw tenderly, “Of course! Do you want me to chase you again? I don’t mind how many times I have to chase you, as long as the final answer is YES.”
With a smile, Song Miaomiao replied, “You can try again.”
Han Chuan teased, “But I don’t want to try again now. Let’s make it once every two months. For now, just be my girlfriend and let me hold you more.”
Upon hearing such affectionate words, Song Miaomiao couldn’t help but feel bashful. If she were in human form at that moment, her face would have turned redder than a tomato. She lowered her head and kissed Han Chuan’s palm.
Han Chuan continued, “Moreover, the world in the dream, though sometimes sour, is mostly sweet. Like watching you play shuttlecock, strolling under lanterns, feeding me, or going on trips together. I’ve read stories and practiced swordplay, dreaming that I was the hero. But despite the sweetness, because they’re all dreams, there’s still a sense of unreality. I want to thank you for letting me chase after you for so long. In a short time, I’ve come to realize that you’re truly a part of my world, not just a fleeting figure in my dreams.”
Song Miaomiao couldn’t help but feel deeply touched.
