Crying While Filling the Pit I Dug - Chapter 105
Song Miaomiao stepped forward to greet the class teacher, “Hi, Teacher.”
The class teacher acknowledged them, “You are the newly transferred students, Song Miaomiao and Song Chaowang.”
“Yes, Teacher,” they both replied.
“Okay, come with me, let me introduce you to everyone,” the class teacher instructed.
Led by the homeroom teacher, Song Miaomiao and her brother entered the classroom, causing the noisy chatter to abruptly cease. Song Miaomiao quickly spotted Han Chuan sitting in the middle, and their eyes met. She offered a polite smile, to which he responded before casually looking away, scanning the room.
Standing at the podium, the head teacher addressed the students, “Hello, students. This semester, we have two new students, Song Miaomiao and Song Chaowang. Let’s start with the introductions. Ladies first.”
Song Miaomiao smiled and began, “Hello, everyone. My name is Song Miaomiao. It’s a new semester, so please give me your guidance.”
When her brother noticed Tang Xin, his former owner, sitting in the front row with short hair, he couldn’t hide his nervousness. “Hello, everyone. My name is Shanmao.”
There was laughter immediately in the classroom, “Shanmao, are you serious?”
The classroom erupted in laughter, “Shanmao, are you serious?”
Song Miaomiao nudged him quietly.
“Oh, my nickname is Shanmao. You can call me by my nickname. The first name on my ID card is Song Chaowang,” her brother clarified.
The homeroom teacher chuckled, “Song Chaowang is quite humorous. I’ll call you Shanmao then.”
Her brother nodded, “No problem, Teacher. I also like it when people call me that.”
The class teacher decided, “Then you two siblings can sit together at the end of a table.”
“Okay, thank you, teacher,” Song Miaomiao responded gratefully.
Seated as desk mates, Song Miaomiao and her elder brother shared amused glances throughout class. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Han Chuan kept glancing in her direction, which she found amusing considering he was seated at the front, forcing him to turn to the back row.
Suppressing giggles became a challenge.
After class, some enthusiastic students approached Song Miaomiao and her brother to greet them. Han Chuan observed from a distance, choosing not to join the crowd.
Meanwhile, her brother wasted no time striking up a conversation with Tang Xin, finding excuses to borrow an eraser or pen.
When school ended at noon, Song Miaomiao and Song Chaowang walked ahead, with Han Chuan trailing behind. Song Miaomiao contemplated feigning an ankle sprain or some other excuse to catch Han Chuan’s attention.
Before she could act on her plan, Han Chuan’s voice interrupted from behind, “Student Song.”
Song Miaomiao turned around eagerly, greeting him with a smile, “Hello.”
Han Chuan appeared nervous as he introduced himself, “Hello, we’re in the same class. My name is Han Chuan.”
“Ah, Han Chuan,” she acknowledged.
Han Chuan held out two books, asking “I wanted to ask, Student Song, is one of these the book you lost?”
Realization dawned on her. He must have seen her drop her book at the school gate that morning and picked it up. “Yes, I did lose a book this morning. Did you find it? Thank you so much.”
Han Chuan’s cheeks flushed slightly as he stumbled over his words, “Newcomer Song, was it the Physics book or the Chemistry book?”
Song Miaomiao exchanged a glance with her brother, who chimed in, “My sister dropped her scientist book.”
Embarrassed, Han Chuan hurriedly apologized and darted away, “Ahem, I’m sorry, I made a mistake.”
Watching him retreat, Song Miaomiao couldn’t help but chuckle. He was too adorable.
After lunch, as Song Miaomiao and her brother returned to the classroom, Han Chuan approached once more, catching them off guard while her brother was in the restroom.
He presented the brand-new scientist book, saying, “Sorry, Student Song, I picked up the wrong ones earlier. This is the one you dropped.”
Suppressing a smile, Song Miaomiao accepted the book, saying, “Thank you.”
She flipped open the book and noticed that her name wasn’t written on the front page. Han Chuan must have overheard their conversation earlier. It seemed he had deliberately approached her to strike up a conversation.
Reflecting on the situation, she couldn’t help but feel a twinge of guilt. If she and her brother had clarified which book she was missing from the start, Han Chuan wouldn’t have mistaken the book before lunch, resulting in an awkward situation. However, she found his nervousness endearing when he delivered the wrong book, adding to his charm.
Han Chuan took a seat in the front row, facing Song Miaomiao. “You’re welcome, Miaomiao. Which school did you transfer from?” He asked.
Song Miaomiao preferred informality. “Don’t call me classmate, just Miaomiao. My brother and I transferred from another province,” she replied.
Trying out her name tentatively, Han Chuan said, “Miaomiao.”
She responded with a soft “hmm”.
Han Chuan, attempting to be helpful, offered, “Your name sounds really nice, Miaomiao. Well, uh, I’m the class monitor. If you need anything or have any questions about the school, feel free to ask me.”
With a hint of mischief, Song Miaomiao inquired, “Okay, then may I ask which cafeteria window serves more meat?”
Caught off guard, Han Chuan hesitated before responding, “Uh, well, every chef in our cafeteria is a bit stingy with the meat… But for lunch, the second window next to the first window sells beef noodles, which have plenty of beef. The boiled pork slices, mapo noodles on the first window, tofu, and mashed potatoes are also delicious. On the second window, the fried eggplant boxes, ants climbing trees, and braised chicken legs are top choices. But avoid the soy milk for breakfast; it’s pretty tasteless.”
Taking note of his recommendations, Song Miaomiao nodded, “Got it.”
Seemingly eager to continue their conversation, Han Chuan offered, “What do you feel like eating? I can accompany you for lunch. And if you like soy milk, there’s a store near our house that serves delicious soy milk. I could bring some for you every morning.”
Song Miaomiao chuckled, “Won’t this be too much trouble for you?”
Han Chuan waved his hands reassuringly, “No trouble at all. Consider it done.”
Grateful, Song Miaomiao said, “Then thank you very much.”
Han Chuan, eager to assist, asked, “Do you have any questions, Miaomiao?”
Curious about the teachers, Song Miaomiao inquired, “Please tell me about the teachers. Who’s strict?”
